The Lange Voorhout in The Hague will temporarily be home to 23 giant bronze sculptures by the renowned Spanish sculptor Manolo Valdés and five smaller marble and natural stone sculptures by the Flemish artist Kim De Ruysscher. A unique, free-of-charge event of international allure. In 2010 Spain and Belgium are sharing the presidency of the European Union, reason for The Hague Sculpture to present work by important artists from these two countries in its open-air exhibition United in Art. The Spanish sculptor is the world famous Manolo Valdés, and the Belgian artist the award-winning Kim De Ruysscher. Besides the monumental sculptures displayed outdoors on the Lange Voorhout, paintings and drawings of Mr Valdéss and small sculptures from Kim De Ruysscher can also be admired in Pulchri Studio (Lange Voorhout 15) and the Kloosterkerk (Lange Voorhout 2).
Kim De Ruysscher
The Belgian artist Kim De Ruysscher (Wilrijk, 1973) has lived and worked in The Hague since 2006. He makes marble sculptures by a classical method, but draws his inspiration from daily life. His theme at The Hague Sculpture 2010 is rest: people sitting in a sleeping bag or having a rest on a seat, a deserted table, pillows, a woman daydreaming. De Ruysscher has held expositions throughout the world and has won prizes in many countries, including the Netherlands, France, Spain, Finland, Canada and China.
