‘Contradictions. Two worlds collide. Consumerism versus quality, brittleness opposite strength, light or heavy, sweet or cruel. You name it. The sculpture gives us the ability to fantasize at different levels. To deepen the impressions coming from the sculpture itself.’ The Belgian artist Kim De Ruysscher is known for its sculptures using natural materials like marble as he used for one of his latest work ‘crocodile’ – an image for cruelty but in his case a crocodile presented as a toy.
‘His sculptures from 2013 express the history of play - A world in which a series of objects is turned into toys. They carry the sound of life. Where the movement captures silence or the stillness of the moving image takes shape, the viewer will enter a fantasy world. The game is alive.’

We were confronted with the art of Kim De Ruysscher on the art fair ‘Preview’ during the Berlin Art Week and were directly triggered and fascinated by his work.
