Picnic
Blanket

A massive thick stone is buried in the ground. Only the surface of the stone is visible and completed as a kind of low relief. In the picture we can find the imagination of a picnic blanket. The blanket stands on the one hand for warmth and security while on the other hand the picnic is a reflection to eating in nature. Le déjeuner sur l'herbe (Édouard Manet, 1863), a common theme in the history of art, has been a powerful source of inspiration. The choice of the material came out for red sandstone which gets its structure and composition by rapid patine of weathering. This work is indifferently as if it is integrated in nature, like picnic is part of nature; like life, enjoying life, is inherent in nature.
